ROLL SHUTTERS:
 Roll shutter are the top of the line shuttering system, they provide excellent security, versatility, and energy savings. The roll shutter slat system, or curtain, rolls into a box at the top of the opening, this box is anywhere from 8” square to 15” square, but the most common size is a 10” box. The shutter can be operated by a crank handle or motor, the manual crank cannot lift more than a medium size window (72 sq foot). The motor is usually hard wired into your home by an electrician, although there is a
 system that uses batteries only. Roll shutters can be as simple as a crank down system over a window, or as elaborate as an entire house set on timers, wind and sun sensors with remote controls. There are many styles, colors, and accessories to choose from when it comes to roll shutters, and we recommend some moderate construction skills to install roll shutters. At Affordable Aluminum we do not make a “bulldog” style of roll shutter, rater an “Elite” style only. When comparing roll shutters form manufacture to manufacture, you need to look at not only the quality and wind rating of the curtain or blades themselves, but also what operates your shutter. We will only use ELERO brand motors, the highest quality German made motor on the market with a ten year limited guarantee. The “idler arms” are not plastic but rather pot steel, the reel tube is aluminum and we never use a 60mm, only 70mm or better to prevent sagging and slippage over the years. Our gear system is a closed gear, end caps are 100,000 hour salt wash, and hood is 250MM roll formed. One place where most companies cut corners on the idler side, and this is the pivot point where your entire shutter works off of, at Affordable Aluminum we use only a grease packed, 8 stainless steel ball bearing system, where our competition uses a bucket bracket.
